Cornish Seal Sanctuary

Family friendly3 hrs££Relevance 1/10

Nestled in the picturesque Helford Estuary, the Cornish Seal Sanctuary is a heart-warming refuge for sick, injured, and orphaned marine animals. Since its humble beginnings in the 1950s when founder Ken Jones rescued a single pup, this sanctuary has grown into a world-class facility, providing essential care for grey seals, common seals, and other coastal wildlife before releasing them back into the wild.

Visitors can look forward to an intimate and educational experience. You can watch the residents during their daily feeding times, listen to engaging keeper talks, and wander through the stunning 42-acre woodland grounds. It is a rare opportunity to see these curious creatures up close while learning about the vital conservation work being done to protect Cornwall's precious marine environment.

Beyond the seal pools, the sanctuary is home to a range of other rescued animals, including otters, sea lions, and even goats and sheep in the paddock area. The winding nature trails are a highlight for many, offering a serene escape and beautiful views across the estuary, making it an ideal spot to connect with nature.

Practical tips for your visit: the sanctuary is situated on a hillside, so be prepared for some slopes and uneven paths when exploring the grounds. It’s best to check the daily schedule upon arrival so you don't miss the interactive feeding sessions. While most of the site is outdoors, there are indoor viewing areas and cafes, making it a lovely day out even if the Cornish weather turns a bit misty.
